A little Before & After

Yeah, yeah, yeah...it's been a long time!!! I haven't been blogging for a couple reasons, 1. I've been busy with events and the holidays, 2. My camera broke (thanks sister) and I hate blogging without pictures. Lame I know. I did however get a Blackberry that takes pretty good photos so that is what I am working with these days.

I have a few before and after shots of our living room!!! I FINALLY painted and started to put the baseboards down so I am finally proud and ecstatic to sit in our living room, now if we could only get a flat panel TV for the wall the room would be PERFECT! (oh and maybe some wall decor would spruce it up even more)

Here is the BEFORE...

The DURING...

and (drum roll please) the AFTER...

I love love love it and here are a few more pics of the house...

Funny Husband

From Sally's Blog-A Warm Conversation
This is a picture of our new bedding set and it has a funny story that goes along with it. We got it about a month ago when Jeremiah and I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond to use the last of our wedding gift cards. I was browsing through the clearance section, who doesn't love a good clearance bargain, and I spotted this bed spread. Jeremiah was off admiring the down pillows and I started to design how I would decorate the room around this bedspread and a set of lamps we got as a wedding gift. In my head I was only thinking of one set of regular pillows and one set of regular shams on top of the bed. I imagined that Jeremiah would think more than that would be ridiculous...oh how I was completely wrong. I took the bedspread to Jeremiah and said that I think we should buy a bedding set with our gift money and he quickly agreed, shocker #1. "Ok" I said, "I will try to find the matching sheets and bedspread in the clearance section." He walked back over with me and said, "can we get all these pillows that are in this picture too?"
Shocked moment #2, and thinking that he was joking I said "sure if you really want them." Then he receded to tell me that since he was a little boy he had always wanted a bed with a lot of pillows!!! Yes, that's shocker #3!!! "Is this my husband?" I stood there thinking, "is this the man that grew up in a twin bed with no mismatch sheets and any blanket that was warm enough for the season?" I didn't want to discourage him though so I kept my cool and simply said, "if you want to, sure". I was in utter shock but happily found all the pieces to complete the set, including Euro pillows for the Euro shams. BTW, I got the whole set for 72% off the original price!!! After that we finished using our gift cards, checked out and went home. Ready for some more shockers??? When we got home Miah asked if we could put our new bed set together and so we did, he was very proud when he saw all the pillows. Then, the next morning and just about every morning since then...HE HAS MADE THE BED AND LOVINGLY ARRANGED ALL THE PILLOWS WITH SUCH CARE!!! Now if he knew I was writing all of this for the public to read he would be embarrassed and maybe annoyed but I think it is so cute and adorable and I am pretty sure he doesn't read my blog anymore. I just wanted to share this story because he surprises me everyday and I love him more and more each day now that we are married and under the same roof. We are learning and loving so much more now. :)

P.S. later on I will share my ideas for the room and show you my lamps!!!

Happy Halloween!!!

My sister broke my camera so I haven't been able to take updated pictures of the house so I have nothing new to show you guys. We got a new area rug (not quite sure I like it), it's not the one I wanted so I am getting used to it. We still need to paint but the floors look amazing.

My sister got married last weekend

but I didn't take any pictures for myself so I don't have anything to show. This picture is from Rachel's camera. We had such a good time and everything turned out beautiful!!! I can't wait to share the photographers photos.

It's Halloween tonight but we didn't do anything festive :(. We went to dinner at our friend Jacy's house and had a nice dinner with good conversation and handed out candy but nothing to exciting. Maybe next year we will have a little less going on and quite possibly a little one to dress up :):):).

I'm alive, and WELL

Busy with life and work and the house right now (oh and running out of gas for like the 1000th time this afternoon so now I am an hour behind in my day) but I heard this song on the radio today and fell in love with the message and sound.

Just had to share it with you...

I'm Alive lyrics
Kenny Chesney Feat - Dave Matthews

So damn easy to say that life's so hard
Everybody's got their share of battle scars
As for me I'd like to thank my lucky stars that
I'm alive and well

It'd be easy to add up all the pain
And all the dreams you've sat and watch go up in flames
Dwell on the wreckage as it smolders in the rain
But not me... I'm alive

And today you know that's good enough for me
Breathing in and out's a blessing can't you see
Today's the first day of the rest of my life
And I'm alive and well
I'm alive and well

Stars are dancin' on the water here tonight
It's good for the soul when there's not a soul in sight
This motor's caught its wind and brought me back to life
Now I'm alive and well

And today you know that's good enough for me
Breathing in and out's a blessing can't you see
Today's the first day of the rest of my life
Now I'm alive and well
Yeah I'm alive and well

Exquisite Blooms has "PRESS"...kinda

I did a wedding in September that I featured on my "work" blog entitled "Small Beach Wedding", and it was featured in Pacific San Diego Magazine this month!!! While the article is not about the flowers or anything of that nature, they still have pics of the beautiful bride and her bouquet I MADE! It was made from gladiola blooms then wrapped in raffia and accented with tiny starfish to match the centerpieces. Check it out below...

From Exquisite Blooms

Just wanted to share that with everyone because this is the 1st time my work has been printed in any publications!!! I am just a little excited :).

P.S. this is a really cool local magazine that I have been picking up lately and I think you all should too!

Disneyland

Celebrate!!!

That is exactly what we did on September 18th at Disneyland. Sister and I celebrated our 28th birthday in Disneyland style!!!

Just the 2 of us drove up to Anaheim to the "Happiest Place on Earth" to enjoy a free day at Disneyland. We wore matching outfits (my idea), got matching birthday pins (courtesy of Disneyland) and rode our favorite rides. I have to admit that my initial (secret) feeling was that of reluctance when we stepped out of the car and we were in twin outfits, down to the shoes and all. I kept the feeling to myself, unlike my very anti-matching sister who complained that people were looking. Eventually we realized that people were staring because they thought it was cute, we heard people saying "oh look, Twins!". Then when we got in and saw the number of September 18th B-Dayers, it was fun to be matching. Sister even told me at the end of the day, "I am glad you made us wearing matching clothes and wear out Birthday pins, it was fun!"

This was the "Celebrate" Parade...very "entertaining"!

We didn't stay long, we were back in SD by 6:30, but we had a really good time.

Paint colors

I need to pick our living room paint color today so that we can paint and then re-finish the floors but I just can't decide.

I want to buy this rug and put it in the middle.
What COLOR on the walls?????

Hard Wood Floors

So Josh (my brother-in-law), Jessica (brother-in-laws girlfriend) and I decided to pull the carpet out of the living room and dining room last night. It was so easy coming up that I thought to myself that maybe all that I would have to do was vacuum and then give it a good mop and they would look fabulous. Think again...

All I have to say is that the people that lived here before us were CRAZY and GROSS!!! They glued and stapled the carpet pad to the floor and also decided to paint before putting the carpet down and did not bother to put a tarp down!

Here is the "before" with carpet...please forgive the lack of decor, I have yet to decide on how we will decorate this space and we are also getting a new TV for the wall so this one is just here as a transition.
Now here is the "after" without the carpet...not much better but still an improvement.

And here are the hurdles...
1. cleaning up all the glue from the floor (goo-be-gone here we come)
2. pulling up all the staples
3. pulling up all the carpet tack strips
4. sanding the floors
5. staining the floors
6. sealing the floors
Easy job, right???
Here is an example of how they painted without drop cloths.

Sneak peak

Here is a sneak peak of our new home. I have so many ideas and colors that I want to play with but for now I have to finish unpacking my last few boxes and get ready for the bridal event I am co-hosting on Sunday afternoon. But here it is...

The cute front where I want to paint the shutters, trim and the porch railing black and take down the tacky letters that spell out the address. Plus plant some really cute and colorful flowers in the flower beds.

Here is the oh so cute but very tiny dining room with a cute built in cabinet. My sister put the whole thing together for me when she helped me unpack all of the wedding gifts. She made it look so cute :). I am thinking a soft cool blue on the walls with a really cool blue and cream print on the chairs seats (I will be stripping these chairs and painting them cream to match the table and head chairs). Oh and of course my wedding chandelier hanging above the table instead of this ugly one!

Then there is the kitchen which needs to have the cabinets painted a nice cream/ivory and a new butcher block counter with a subway tile back splash and new tile flooring.

It has been really fun starting to make this our home and Jeremiah is very excited to have all these fun "house" tasks. We went to Bed, Bath and Beyond on Monday night and you would have thought that he walked into a dream land! He was so excited about EVERYTHING there. He wanted to buy a salad spinner, table clothes, garlic presses, trivets, anything that caught his eye and stuck him as "NEAT". It was fun to watch and very surprising because I didn't think that he would EVER want to go to a home store let alone have fun in it. I had planned on going by myself to pick up a few things and he told me over the phone, "No, wait till I get home and we'll go together." So I did and we went and had fun using our wedding gift cards. Then yesterday he said "you want to go to Bed, Bath and Beyond again to browse?" Browse!!! Since when does Jeremiah just want to go someplace and BROWSE?!?!?! I love that he is so cute and unpredictable sometimes :).

So long story short...my stories are never short :)...we are settling in and having fun "Playing House." Well I guess we're not playing anymore and this is real life. Hmmm, married, bought a home with my husband, talking about having kids soon...I guess I am a "Grown Up."

And apparently "Mr. I love Bed Bath and Beyond" is a "Grown Up" too? :)

I hate Packing

How is it that while trying to be an organized minimalist, one can acquire so much stuff?!?!?!

We are going through closets, cabinets, bins...and finding stuff that we bought and then used once or never. To top it off, now we can't seem to find a need for it. GOODWILL!!! That's what my sister and I keep yelling...GOODWILL!!! It's amazing the stuff that accumulates in 3 years. FUN Summer serving trays (never used)Goodwill! Chillzane from the Pampered Chef (never used) Goodwill! Iced tea jar (used once)Goodwill! Stuff really piles up if you don't stay on top of your "Spring Cleaning." I am making a vow right now, you all are my witnesses...I WILL "Spring Clean" in our new house every Spring so that I will NOT have random stuff collecting that I will find 5 years from now and think "hmmm, why did I buy this?"

Keep your fingers crossed, we are supposed to get the keys tomorrow and start moving our stuff in the afternoon. I already ordered the truck so we better get the keys.

Other things to look forward to...

"We're going to Disneyland"

That is my sister and I are going to Disneyland for our birthday on Friday. Why you ask? Cause its free on your birthday and what better way to get in free than with your twin sister :). I plan on making her wear a matching shirt but I have yet to find them. She hates dressing the same but I love it :). Well, I am tired and need to go to bed so I can finish packing in the morning.

Moving...

Started packing last night. Yep that's right, we are moving! My sister and I are selling our cute little 2/1 bungalow with black and white checker kitchen floors in the cute neighborhood of El Cerrito and Jeremiah and I are moving to 3/2 bungalow in a cute old neighborhood of Chula Vista. It's definitely going to need a little work and love on my part but I am excited to decorate and tackle some DIY projects. As of now we are scheduled to close escrow on Tuesday and start moving on Wednesday.

It will be sad to not live with my sister anymore but exciting starting a new home with my husband, one that I can make completely my own. I already have so many ideas and I will share them as they come. Idea one...rip the carpet out to reveal the pretty hard wood floors (plus the idea of living on someone elses carpet really grosses me out, eww). Idea two...strip the kitchen cabinets and paint them a rich cream, then tear out the counter to get a butcher block counter and tile the back splash with a cream subway tile. That will be a big project! But I know I can do it :)

Here is an example of the look of all 3 together but this is SOOOO not what my future kitchen looks like. It is a regular galley kitchen and small but it will definitely benefit from a little makeover. Someday I will have this large kitchen but for now I will start small :).

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!!! I am off to make some flowers for a 75th birthday tonight :)

My Husbands Birthday!!!

(circa 2004-ish)

Today is Jeremiah's Birthday!!!! So today I dedicate this post to my wonderfully loving and funny husband :). Where to start, for those of you that don't know my lovely husband here are a few stats...

Name: John Jeremiah
DOB: September 4th, 1980
Age today: 29 (1 year till he hits the big 3-0)
Family ranking: youngest of 6 (he had 4 brothers and 1 sister) he's the baby to the core!
Passions: starting businesses, eating good food and of course Church
His age when I met him: 17!

So over the past 11.5 years what have I learned about the guy that I thought was so cute in his white beanie at track practice? Actually rather than talk about what I have learned about him, I'm going to talk about what I have learned from him. Jeremiah has taught me true love, forgiveness, honesty, communication and most importantly the Bible. It was through Jeremiah's teaching and patience that I have come to have the relationship with God that I have today and for that I am very grateful.

Things that I love about him: his sense of humor, his playful attitude, his complete support of all my business ventures, his love of wedding flowers :), his need to TALK everything through even when I just want to be mad and storm out, his love of his family, his ENORMOUS family, his passion for food, his dark curly hair, his pasty white skin, his constant humming and singing of church songs, his new found obsession with flossing, his love of his 13 nieces and nephews, the idea of him being a father, his soft kisses and his love and respect for God and His word (these are just a few)

So, now you know a little more about the Birthday Boy :)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIAH!!!!!!!!!!

When will the PAIN STOP!?!?!?

It has been 5 days since the extraction of all 4 of my wisdom teeth and I am still in a good amount of pain! I woke up last night with a shooting pain running around my jaw and was completely convinced that I have nerve damage. I didn't want to OD on pain meds (Aleve or Tylenol) so I tried to tough it out but just tossed and turned for another 2 hours till I took an Aleve. Thankfully it worked quickly and I fell back asleep for another 2 hours but when I woke up the pain was back! I have a prescription to Vicodin but it made me very very nauseous and I stopped taking it so basically I am living with a dull throbbing pain and hoping that it will go away soon.

Oh and also, to make me feel so much better, I haven't really been eating because my mouth is so sore so I am cranky with hunger! Not a good thing. Marcie and I went to see "Julie & Julia" last night and I was getting so hungry watching them make all that great food. BTW, I am totally going to get "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" and make all kinds of great dishes. I really want to find a vintage edition at a thrift store printed in the 60's. If I can't find it then I will just buy new one but I think a vintage edition would be so much more fun!

Anyway, great movie!!! Funny and very cute!!!

Please stop the PAIN!!!

dun dah dun dah.....

The new red headed SALLY!!!
My sister and I went to Target last night so that I could buy Jeremiah a new pair of sandals (which they didn't have and after 3 stores ended up buying them at the surf and skate shop right by my house) and while we were there I decided that it would be fun to dye my hair red. Why must I always do this to my self? After a family dinner at the Gonzalez's we came home, I looked around on the computer while Jeremiah got in bed and then I went off to brush my teeth. While in the bathroom and with Jeremiah quickly dozing off, I decided, "Heck why not do it now!". So I mixed it up and started applying. 20 minutes and a quick rinse later, voila I am a box red head. I was hoping to get the Isla Fisher color but I guess that won't happen since my skin is darker then her beautiful porcelain skin. These pictures don't really show it at its best red but they will have to do. One minute I think it looks ok and then the next minute I catch a glimpse in the mirror and I think "Whoa, that's red!!!". I am hoping it will fade a little and maybe turn into a more natural brownish red. We'll have to wait and see.

Next time..."Stay away from the box dyes!!!!"

New Banner and Title

If you haven't noticed, I changed the title of my blog and made a new banner. I thought it would be a quick task but it is already 1PM and I started at 10AM. 3Hours!!! It seems like it has only been 30 minutes but once I get sucked into photoshop and illustrator I am in there playing around and before I know it hours have gone by. Good thing I have a slow week!!!

I wanted to make a new banner for my Exquisite Blooms blog too but that will have to wait for another day. I am still in my PJ's and have to get this day started. Oh and I also want to know how to make my pictures larger...anyone know? Any suggestions? I have tried to figure it out but I am lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This was the other banner I made but I think I like the clean look of the white one.
Lastly, do you think I should change my blog website to www.awarmconversation.blogspot.com???

Time Travelers Wife

Has anyone seen this yet or read the book? I went to see it tonight with my sister-in-law Marcie and I am having mixed feelings. I think I better read the book because it seemed really intriguing but something was missing. You know when you have read a book and then see the movie and you can follow along because in your head you know the background??? But then you think to yourself how are other people following if they haven't read the book??? I felt like the other people...the outsiders who don't have the inside scoop. I felt like I was missing large pieces of information or story and therefore didn't have a strong connection with the characters. I wanted to feel their emotion but I never felt that attached to them and so I merely watched and that was it.

You see, I am a big time lover of "crying" movies, movies like 'The Notebook' and 'P.S. I Love You'. Of course these are books too, but even though I did not read the books until after I saw the movie, I still was very emotional while watching. I felt that the movie, while it didn't stick strictly to the book, still conveyed the emotion.

In 'The Time Travelers Wife', I just never had that emotional attachment. Hmmm, I don't know maybe I am just rambling but I thought I would share my mini review and if anyone wants to read the book I will be starting soon and would love to discuss it.

P.S. I think Rachel McAdams is gorgeous and she was really great in the movie

All It Takes is One Hello
I took the time to say hello
To someone that I didn't know
To someone who was walking by,
A look of sadness in her eyes.
And when she smiled back gratefully
And said a warm hello to me,
I realized my "little gift"
Had given both of us a lift!
You never know just whom you'll meet
Throughout your day on any street,
People just like me and you
With loneliness and problems, too,
Yet life is always better when
We take the time to be a friend
To someone we don't even know-
And all it takes is one hello.

Growing Older

Ok, so I'm not 75 or anything but sometimes I feel like I am getting so much older and it seems so long ago that I graduated from high school and college. It's been 10 years since BV and 6 years since SDSU!!! WOW!!!

Our high school reunion is coming up in October and while I swore up and down that I, WAS NOT under any circumstance going to the reunion, I found myself giving in to Lisa and Erin and now we are all going!!! Mixed feelings for sure, not sure why but still they are there. One reason I guess would be that I see most of my friends from high school and we are still close, so why the need for a reunion? Never the less, I am going. Maybe it will be fun?!?!?!?

This little rant leads to today's "Moment of Inspiration"

What Does it Mean to Grow Older?
What does it mean to grow older?
It means to grow wiser each day,
To Appreciate more fully
The joy life sends our way.
It means finding pleasure in little things-
A word, a smile, a thought,
To play and dream but not forget
The joys the past has brought.
It means to value having friends
And loved ones always near,
To learn from each experience
And cherish every year.

I really like this little "moment" because it makes me think about what I truly cherish and what brings me joy...
My wonderful newly wed husband :). He is so sweet and funny and goofy and full of ideas and dreams and we have so many memories together to always remember and build on.

My sister and my girlfriends...we always have fun and laugh about silly things. And while some I have known since birth and some just a few years, I love each one very much.

My family who is always there for me and always supportive...
(doesn't my immediate family look tiny compared to Jeremiah's?)

And while growing old can be freighting and sad, right now I am looking forward to it. Sometimes I think "I don't want to get old!" but for now, growing old means more exciting adventures with Jeremiah like finding a new home, having children and watching them grow.

Bohemian Eclectic

I took this home style quiz and here is my result:

Sally
, you are a
Bohemian Eclectic

You have wide-ranging interests and influences and so appreciate a mix of styles, cultures, periods, and objects. You would never use a matching suite of furniture or want a home that seemed cookie-cutter. You have an artist's eye that enables you to mix the old or the unusual with the new and modern. When traveling, you seek out unique objects that reflect what you love, and you use them in a sophisticated way. Your home is visually intriguing and comfortable, with a delightful mix of cozy chairs, ethnic fabrics, elegant pieces, hand-made items, even a little touch of quirk or humor, all of which gives your place a laid-back, Bohemian feel.

You value creativity. You are stylish and fun loving, and can be an inspiration to others. You have a natural sense of drama, and you know you have to be willing to take risks—whether with colors, finishes, furniture choices, or ideas—for your home to stand out. Your home can be happy and lively and the place all of your friends want to be.

I think it fits me perfectly and here are a few pictures that I found to represent how I would love to decorate my new place :)...

Now you take the quiz and post your results in the comment section.
