OK, so I am not scared or anything but I have been thinking a lot lately about what the days will be like after Jeremiah and I get married. I know that I will absolutely love being married to him and it is what I have always wanted and I can't wait to be a wife but...will it be an easy transition? I have never lived with him and I am afraid that my "ways" and his "ways" might be a problem. The only person I have ever lived with in a room was my sister and she moved out about 6 years ago, so I am very used to having my own room and my own space and my own things in a very particular order. Will I get annoyed if he doesn't put his clothes away? Will I get cranky if he leaves his socks on the floor EVERYDAY? These are things he does now and right now they don't bother me but is that because they are in "His" room and not mine?
How will I deal with this? Should I just make up my mind to accept these things or should I set friendly "guidelines"? I don't want to seem like a NAG right from the start. He knows how my room is and while it is not perfect all the time, it is orderly and tidy. Will he pick up on that and follow my lead? All these questions!!! Maybe I will be so happy that I won't even notice when he washes his face, brushes his teeth and then leaves the counter covered in water and soap and towels. Maybe I will be so excited to be a new bride that I will want to clean up after my wonderful new husband??? Yes, No? I just don't want him to think, "Gosh who did I marry?" Since we have never lived together these are things to think about, right?
Advice, comments, suggestions...
Dear friend it will be the hardest and the best thing you have ever done. The daily annoyances are usually worst the second year than the first (just my own observations). You guys will work it all out! Just a little while longer till you are AUNTIE Sally!!! Hugs.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Liz- its much easier during the "honeymoon" period. Living with a man is in my book easier than most of the roommates I've had (no offense xroomies) mostly because you get to be in charge of where things are suppose to go and how things look - guys don't generally care much. However that said - I do get annoyed and we do fuss at each other about silly things but you have to keep it all in perspective and realize that working out the little things makes you better at working out the big things!
ReplyDeleteI keep trying to find some inspiring words of wisdom but I'm still trying to figure it out myself :) I think the fact that you and Miah know each other sooooooo well should help get past some bumps in the road along the way.
ReplyDeleteHe will drive you crazy sometimes and then turn around amaze you with his capacity to really see you and know how to show you love...at least that is the way it is for me.
As far as the house goes...I think gently discussing your concerns ahead of time might help. Things get bigger when there are expectations that are never shared. I don't know how many times I have been told "I can't read your mind"
I guess I ended up saying quite a bit :)
