Eli's !st Birthday Inspiration

After thinking long and hard about what to do for Eli's birthday party (can't believe he'll be a year next month!) we decided to go with a bug theme.  His favorite clip to watch on our phones or iPad is the Ugly Bug Ball song from Summer Magic.  My family grew up watching Summer Magic, with Haley Mills, and one day my sister showed it to Eli and he went crazy.  He has loved the clip ever since.

We wanted to choose a theme that really represented him so we thought why not bugs since he loves the Ugly Bug Ball song.

I started pinning all kinds of ideas on Pinterest and ended up on combining a bug party for the kids with a family movie night in the back yard...here are my ideas.

I definitely want to stick to primary colors with the majority of the hues being oranges, blues and greens.  I love the idea of giving little bug holders (is that what they are called) as gift bags.

A candy bar with bug inspired candies will be a must.

And an area to showcase Eli's 1st year of photos will be so much fun to create.

As I was searching for party ideas I found this picture which then inspired me to throw an optional family movie night for whomever wants to stay after the party.  I have to admit that I am most excited about this part.  The idea of cozy-ing up under the stars seems so fun.

I will be sure to share all the actual pictures after my big boy turns ONE.

Jeremiah's Birthday...

He turned 30 this year!!!

We had a small BBQ at my sisters house on his actual birthday, the 4th, with some close friends and family.  This is the only picture from that night :(

Then on Sunday we had a nice lunch (pulled pork sandwiches and coleslaw, mmm) at my parents house with Jeremiah's parents, 3 of his 5 siblings and 4 of his 13 nieces and nephews, here are some pictures.
P.S.  that's a Tiramisu cake from San Diego Desserts, good idea Marcie :)
For Jeremiah's big 30th I got him an iPhone and a Wii, I actually gave them to him about a month ago because I just couldn't wait and he was excited about both.  He has never had a good phone so the iPhone was a treat, especially since he is self employed now and needs to keep up with emails all day.

The Wii was one of those gifts that is disguised as a gift for him but really for me...well it was suppossed to be that way.  So here's a little side story...I saw a commercial for Netflix and the Wii, you know that one that says you can get Netflix streamed right to your TV through the Wii?  Ya well i was totally sold, I went online and bought one immediately and signed up for Netflix (advertising and commercials are one of my biggest weaknesses, I am always "sold").  I figured the Wii would serve multiple purposes, gaming console, Netflix receiver and DVD player...WRONG!!!  Yes it is a gaming console and we have had fun playing Tetris, however, while it is a Netflix receiver, come to find out our TV is ALSO a Netflix receiver.  To top that off, it doesn't play DVD's!  Oh well, we have had fun with it anyway.  Sometimes I really am just way to impulsive!

All in all, we had a good weekend and I hope he had a wonderful 30th birthday.  Plus...we have exciting plans for this coming weekend (my birthday) which will kind of serve as a birthday month present to both of us!!!  So excited, stay tuned...

Disneyland

Celebrate!!!

That is exactly what we did on September 18th at Disneyland. Sister and I celebrated our 28th birthday in Disneyland style!!!

Just the 2 of us drove up to Anaheim to the "Happiest Place on Earth" to enjoy a free day at Disneyland. We wore matching outfits (my idea), got matching birthday pins (courtesy of Disneyland) and rode our favorite rides. I have to admit that my initial (secret) feeling was that of reluctance when we stepped out of the car and we were in twin outfits, down to the shoes and all. I kept the feeling to myself, unlike my very anti-matching sister who complained that people were looking. Eventually we realized that people were staring because they thought it was cute, we heard people saying "oh look, Twins!". Then when we got in and saw the number of September 18th B-Dayers, it was fun to be matching. Sister even told me at the end of the day, "I am glad you made us wearing matching clothes and wear out Birthday pins, it was fun!"

This was the "Celebrate" Parade...very "entertaining"!

We didn't stay long, we were back in SD by 6:30, but we had a really good time.
