Wedding Gown Shopping

So my sister and I were running errands on Monday and decided to pop into a bridal shop to try on wedding dresses...BIG MISTAKE!!! I had thought that I would always be reasonable and level headed when it came to wedding dress shopping, WRONG!!! They were all so pretty and I totally got caught up in the girls selling me. They totally convinced me that I had found "THE ONE"!!! I left feeling physically and emotionally exhausted and completely confused. Luckily I had my sister there to tell me to "walk away".

When she was looking for dresses I was the one telling her to "walk away", "think about it", "lets keep looking" and I thought that I would be able to tell myself those things but I was completely WRONG. I woke up the next morning and realized I didn't even really like the dress that I so desperatly had to have the day before. It is crazy how easily the sales girls played on my emotions, I am embarrased. I will definately keep looking and I am very excited to try on more pretty dresses :). I have posted a picture of a dress that I really like.

The New Year is coming!!!

So who is looking forward to the New Year??? I certainly am...by this time next year I will be married :):):), my twin sister will be married :):):) and who knows what else. Maybe I will have one of the most successful wedding floral businesses in San Diego...at least I can shoot for that ;).

Hmmm...New Years resolutions...
  1. Don't get to stressed out with wedding planning (mine or my sisters)
  2. Make it to the gym AT LEAST 3 times a week
  3. Study more of the Bible
  4. Travel more

Those are some pretty simple ones. I figure the key to making New Years Resolutions is to keep them attainable :), that way you will feel good when you keep them but really, they really weren't that hard to do.

Nothing to exciting happened my first week of being engaged, well except for Christmas of course. We had a good Christmas, Jeremiah's whole family was here except for his sister and her family. My sissy was in Oregon with Jeremy's family so that was different and sad. It wasn't the same to open presents without her there next to me but I guess that will all be changing this year anyway, although I still plan on going home for Christmas to my parents house to spend the night and open gifts in the morning married or not (assuming that is OK with Jeremiah of course :). Hopefully my sister will plan on that too and then it will be the same as always with the addition of 2 more boys.

Anyway, that's all for now. Jeremiah and I went to the zoo yesterday and then to watch the sun set in La Jolla before going to dinner at some friends house so here are a few pics from the day.

We're Engaged!!!

So in case you haven't heard by now or have not heard the story...Miah and I are FINALLY Engaged!!!!! So, the engagement story is...

On Thursday night he decided that we were going to go to Big Bear to go snowboarding because of all the fresh snow. We made reservations to go up on Friday night and snowboard on Saturday. On Saturday morning the 1st thing we did was go get breakfast...at a sit down restaurant! For normal people this would be fine, just a regular meal, but for Miah to spend money on a sit down breakfast is very rare especially on a snowboarding trip. Usually, we just head right for the slopes and eat something fast but on Saturday he seemed to be in no hurry to get there. I should have been more suspicious but I was just along for the ride. After breakfast we headed for the mountain, bought our lift ticket and headed up on the lift. (Side note: all morning Miah kept asking me if I had my camera, over and over he kept asking for it but again I was paying no attention.)

So we get to the top of the lift and head down for our 1st run, as usual my boots were to loose so at the bottom of the slope I stopped to tighten them and Miah said "can't you just tighten your boots when we get back up to the top" and I said "No I want to do it now." So I tightened my boots and we got back on the lift to go up for our 2nd run. Nothing unusual on that ride up but he did say that he wanted to go off the trail to board through the fresh powder in the trees and I said OK. When we got to the edge of the trail there was a big WARNING sign that said DANGER, possible injury or death and Snow Summit is not responsible so I started to get a little scared. I didn't want to go off trail and end up dying!!!

I ended up going off trail and it was pretty fun and I passed Miah up and he called out for me to wait for him so I sat down and waited for him to catch up. When he caught up we sat down and looked out at the pretty view. Then it started...he started getting nervous and saying weird things. He was talking about how beautiful it was there and how he just wanted to take a nap, all very uncharacteristic things for Jeremiah to say but still I wasn't catching on. Then he asked me if I wanted to make a snowman and I said "not really" but he didn't give up, he kept asking and asking until finally I said "Fine." So we started making a snowman but the snow was so powdery it was kind of hard and he started acting really weird. He was asking me random questions and getting frustrated with the snow. Then I noticed he was on his knee making the snowman, not just sitting in the snow like I was. That was when I started to get suspicious and things started to click. Next he asked me for my Ipod and I said "why do you want my Ipod, where is your Ipod?" He just told me, "give me your Ipod" so I gave it to him and he put on Tim McGraws "My Best Friend" and I started to get even more suspicious.

As the song played blaring through my ear bud speakers a couple more random nervous comments were made and finally in his very SERIOUS/CHURCH/WORK voice (it is a very scripted and deep tone that he uses sometimes in serious situations that I always tell him is to un-natural), he said..."So Sally I brought you here for a reason" and I immediately knew why but blurted out "Don't give me a church speech" and he laughed and said, as he pulled a red ring box from the snow, "Fine, Sally WILL YOU MARRY ME." I started crying and said "YES" and he said "Why did you have to act so difficult?" I admit I was being kinda stubborn but at first I just thought he was being weirdo Jeremiah and then when I figured it out I didn't want to act obvious like I knew.

The whole thing was very funny the way it played out and it was very "Jeremiah and Sally" :). I couldn't have asked for a more perfect or classic engagement story!!!

So after all that we sat and talked very excitedly about what had just happened and laughed at ourselves, him for being so awkward and nervous, me for being stubborn Sally and not going along with anything he wanted me to do. Then we started calling our friends and family to share the news!!!

While I was talking on the phone, which took 2 hours, Miah carved an "S" into the tree behind our snowman so that we will be able to come back and visit our spot over the years. We had a lot of fun telling everyone the story and are very excited to be engaged...after all these years!!!

No real plans yet for the wedding, just settling in as a newly engaged couple. It feels very exciting and very surreal to actually be engaged. No more having people ask "so when are you guys gonna get married?" It feels wonderful and I can't wait to be married to Jeremiah!!! He truly is MY BEST FRIEND and such a wonderful person. We have grown up together over the last 10 years and have experienced so much that I could never imagine my life without him in it.

Frugal Christmas for ME!!!

(picture of my sister, brother and I Christmas morning, circa 1986)

Well it's Christmas time again...only 1 week till Christmas and I have not done any Christmas shopping. Maybe that's because I have no money!!!!! Starting your own business is hard and everything I make seems to go towards regular bills like car insurance, gas and advertising. Someday soon I keep promising myself that I will be able to buy things like I used to but until then I'll just have to wish.

So this year for Christmas since I can't buy gifts I decided to do a little research on how to have a "Low Cost Christmas" and found some great ideas and websites.

Some really neat ideas I found are (the ones in purple are the ones I plan on doing)...
  • burned copies of CD's
  • burned copies of DVD's
  • Recipe cards of favorite recipe accompanied by actual dish/goody
  • Real cupcake, cupcake baked in a cool coffee mug (dollar store or thrift store)
  • Homemade coupons
  • Dollar store finds
  • Re-Gift (we all have random gifts from showers or parties that we can give away)
  • Little potted flower bulb to watch grow throughout year
I am getting really excited for Christmas now; plus we need to remember the real reason for the Christmas season and not get caught up in the gifts. I would much rather go on a family vacation and/or spend quality time with friends and family then receive lots of things that seem cool Christmas morning but that really mean nothing.
Hope these ideas help and hope that everyone has a wonderful Holiday Season!!!!!

Jeremiah job news

Well we got the "unofficial" word today...Jeremiah has been interviewing for a job in Sacramento for over 2 months now and when we finally thought that it was done and he was going to get the job, they up and eliminated the position all together. The company he works for is going through a lot of changes and restructuring and I guess they decided that they no longer require the position that he was applying for. He had been really excited about the job and the move to Sacramento so I am really sad for him because he is pretty disappointed. He was really ready to move away and have a change in environment and get out on his own. But...the good news is that he will be staying in San Diego!

Meanwhile I am busy today with making holiday wreaths and arrangements for delivery. I have a really busy wedding schedule coming up so I getting ready for that as well. My big excitement is that I get to go see Twilight for the 3rd time tomorrow. I babysat a dog for a friend of mine while she was out of town so she offered to take me to the movies as re-payment and since nothing is really playing right now I decided to go see Twilight again!!!! I know I know I am like an obsessed teenager but what can I say...I love Edward Cullen!!!

About Me

I am a native San Diego girl who has a love for all things vintage, thrifty and pretty.  If I can find something that is all 3, I am a happy happy person.

I am, simple, organized, pug owner, optimistic, Christian, sister, daughter, twin, wife, future mother, aunt, sister-in-law, friend, faithful believer, hopeless romantic, listener, college grad, detail oriented, shoe lover, clamy hands, hopeful, prayer, sdsu alum, bvhs alum, raw fish eater and a wedding florist.

I am married to a wonderful man, Jeremiah, whom I dated for 11 years before we got married.  Some people think its crazy but I love that it worked out that way.  We grew up together and fall more and more in love everyday.  He is such a good husband and I can't wait to watch him be a father.  We are hoping to start a family very soon and I hope to share all those tales too.

This Blog serves as a little peak into my regular life and the things I enjoy doing...hope you enjoy.
