Summer Shows

For many of you, just like me, your usual TV entertainment is on "summer break" and you are left feeling a little TV bored.  Well I know that it is a little late in the summer to be suggesting TV shows (maybe if you choose to watch you can catch up online) but these are my 3 favorite shows to watch right now.

Pretty Little Liars-  I guess it started as a book series (I just found that out right now as I was googling pictures for this post) and it is kind teeny bopper but really good.  Even my brother-in-law (I won't name which one) loves it and is currently watching last nights episode as I type.  It is a cross between, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Gossip Girl...so good!
Drop Dead Diva-It is about a ditzy skinny model who dies and comes back in a plumper lawyers body.  Very entertaining and a fun lighthearted show, just what summer needs.
Army Wives-It is an emotional show in it's 4th season/summer, filled with friendship, love, loss, good ol' American Pride and respect for our service men and women.
So in case you are looking for a good summer series to watch, these are definitely worth some DVR space.

Next Project...bedroom

I know that I said I was going to move on to the outdoors but I really need to get our bedroom finished, well actually I need to start it, so that we can have a calm and comfy room when we are tired from working outside. I bought this headboard on Target.com yesterday and it will be the 1st piece to start this room transformation.
These are some inspiration photos that are helping me design the bedroom of my dreams :).
This one (above) is from Young House Love and we already have the shelves next to our bed so all I need is to attach a curtain to them to hide the books and voila, instant calm.  Well almost, I still have to paint and do a few other things but then it will be calm and serene.  The only problem is that I have my home office in the same room but I am trying to come up with inventive ways to hide the office or at least make a soft separation between the 2.

Summer is busy busy busy

This summer is already proving to be busier than ever with weddings to work on, events to attend and friends to hang out with but I am having fun!  I posted a comment on Facebook the other day because I was getting overwhelmed by the busy-ness of life...this is the response I got

Sally Preston-Gonzalez was thinking of planning a little summer trip soon, then I remembered I don't have a free weekend till the fall, then I was sad :(

Paula Thedford
But then you were happy. Because you are busy with friends and family and a job you love. All great things my dear :)
Ruthie Preston Kadolph
Ruthie Preston Kadolph
then you remembered you could go on an early-mid week getaway for 1/2 the price of a weekend stay!

and this little conversation between a friend and my sister reminded me of how lucky I am.  I have a job that I absolutely love, freedom to work when I want, a wonderful husband, an amazing family and wonderful friends.  What more could I ask for?  I remembered that I don't have to dread going to work each morning and I don't have to sit in a office all day waiting for the clock to strike 5, life is good!
It's funny how now matter what your situation is, sometimes you need to be kicked in the B-U-T-T to be reminded that what you have is GREAT!  It really is so easy sometimes to complain and see things as "a glass half empty" or "greener on the other side".  I was easily getting overwhelmed this summer but now I have changed my attitude, thanks Paula and Sister, and decided to enjoy these warm days even when working every weekend.

Is it just me that needs this kick?  Or do you need one too sometimes?

While I probably won't be making it to the beach much, I will leave you with this lovely summer San Diego sunset...

Kitchen re-model...almost done!

Things have been crazy lately with wedding season in full swing but I am slowly finishing our kitchen remodel.  All I have to do is seal the grout, paint the walls, make a few curtains and I should be done.  New floors aren't going to happen this summer, maybe in the fall when things slow down.  Not really sure how that makes any sense since I will be embarking on a front yard remodel pretty soon (like next week!).  Please pray for me that I can handle all these projects and the flower biz...well actually I know I can handle it but pray that Jeremiah doesn't kill me for taking on to many things :).

Here is a before picture and then some new pics...
And in case you are wondering about the cute (miniture) dining room in the distance, here are a few new shots of that.  I pushed the dining room table to the corner to open up more space...
It has definitely been more work than expected and took the help of Jessica and my sister but I am really liking the outcome.  I'm still not done but at least the kitchen is functioning so now I can get back to making dinner.  I have seriously been neglecting dinner time and Jeremiah has lost like 7-10 lbs!  I feel so bad :(, his jeans are really big on him right now so I am working on fattening him back up, any recipes would be greatly appreciated.  I have 2 weddings this weekend and it's the 4th of July so till next time.

Kitchen update-countertops

The new counter tops are in!!!!  Thank you Jessica for all your help installing them.  Of course in true "home improvement" form it didn't go as smoothly as expected but we did it.  We cut them and installed them all by ourselves.  They are the NUMERAR counter tops from IKEA that come in lengths of ~96" and the purchaser has to cut and install them on their own.  Jessica and I did it and we're so PROUD :).  We used a hand Skill saw, a Black and Decker jig saw (only broke 2 blades :), saw horses, screws and screw drivers and they were in.  Thats it!  Ok so maybe there were a few more snags than that but overall it was fairly simple.

Glee

I just watched the season finale of GLEE and let me just tell you, "It was AMAZING!!!!!!".  It literally brought tears to my eyes throughout the entire episode.  It wasn't from the emotional character moments that I was getting misty, it was the amazing songs that turned on the water works for me.  A Journey medley!  Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody! To Sir with Love! Over the Rainbow!  All so amazing and I loved every minute of it. Lets face it, all of these songs are so so good and stir up memories and moments from our past that we will always remember.  For me Journey has always been so much fun to sing and dance to but some of the memories that I really think of when I hear Journey are:

  • riding in my Uncle Vincents 19-eighty something blue Ford Ranger truck with my sister and cousin Sarah (sharing seat belts, no airbags, so illegal now) going who knows where with my uncle but listening to Journey, Jefferson Starship, Eric Clapton and being so happy
  • dancing and singing with friends at parties, downtown, in the car, you name it, no matter where we are we sing it with belted voices and animated faces
  • most recently...our wedding where this shot was taken.  Our reception was filled with so many good songs and lively dancing and this is a perfect shot to represent how much fun we had, this is my sister and girlfriends singing "Don't stop believing" to Jeremiah.  Such a fun night :)

Then we have Queen, oh how I love me some Queen!  The Queen greatest hits CD was my VERY 1st CD ever!  I bought it at "The Warehouse" the day after Christmas circa 1993 and thought I was sooo cool.  My sister ended up claiming it as her own and played "Bicycle" over and over till I wanted to scream but now I listen to it with fond and loving memories.

Finally we have "Over the Rainbow", such a classic and so many memories.
  • I had, well still have, a toy from when I was little, that played "Over the Rainbow" and had a little picture on the back of a little boy and girl walking over a rainbow to a field of flowers.  I would look at that little illustration and imagine what was on the other side in that perfect little field and day dream about playing there.
  • watching The Wizard of Oz as a child and being amazed when Dorothy wakes up and is suddenly in color
  • going to Hawaii with my family in 2004 and hearing IZ everywhere in Hawaii singing it, that song will always be the theme of our Hawaiian family vacation.
The whole episode made me wish I had been more musically or theatrically inclined (oh and not shy) in high school so I could have been dancing and singing on stage with Sound and Music Machine (yes I said it former Barons, I wish I would have been out there with you in the blue sequins!) because it just looks so fun!  A true form of self expression and excitement!

Bottom line, watch Glee!

It's Summer!!!

Well technically summer starts on June 20th but June 8th is close enough :).  My summer will be filled with many things this year, these are just a few...

  • this bathing suit (if I ever make it to the beach)
  • family visits (going to Riverdale, Texas coming here)
  • the traditional July 4th celebration in Coronado
  • finally finishing the interior redecorating of our home (our bedroom is the last/next on my list)
  • flower photo shoots
  • lots of movies (Eclipse being 1st on that list)
  • girly hang outs
  • LISA and DAN's WEDDING!!!
  • hopefully some good quality "summer time" with my hubby even though we will be crazy with weddings
  • P90X, Miah and I are going to challenge ourselves to stay committed to it, follow the journey with us :)
  • this album with this song in particular

Happy Summer!!!
